in 'comp.os.ms-windows.setup.win95'... ~ Are there any must-keep files in WFWG 3.11 that I *have* to retain in ~ order for the upgrade setup to work? What are the files I have to keep, ~ at a minimum, in order to "fool" the setup file into working as if the ~ entire 3.11 was still in my hdd?

So you mount the CDROM drive, cd to the linux directory, find the "setup" file, and run "./setup" at the command line in a window manager (I used fvwm in RH 5.2), I have the glibc files that are required, and everything is ready to go. I tried to run the setup file from my hard drive, and nothing happens.

Failed to install
Look at ther names of all the executable files that are on the disk (exe, com and bat), that might give you a clue. And while you might not be able to find a setup file at http://www.bootdisk.com, you might be able to use a bootdisk and do the install from that anyway, depending on what is on the cd.
